Julis started Beyond the Tail Dog Training because of a lack of academically credentialed dog trainers.
Most dog trainers learned through apprenticeships, trade schools, and other on-the-job training. These are valuable and important ways to learn! But there are very few trainers who have an academic background in animal behavior. This background prepared them to take a holistic approach to dog training and behavior change. It also means that Julis does not use pain or punishment to train dogs. Instead, clients learn how to “pay” their dog for work. This improves their relationships with their dogs and borrows techniques from Hollywood trainers and zookeepers!
In addition to offering private in home or online training, Julis also teaches at Kokoro Dog in Maltby, and Four Paw Sports in Lynnwood. Please see the Kokoro Dog and Four Paw Sports websites to learn more.
Julis’s personal dog, Hazard (pictured below) has prepared them to work with a range of challenging behaviors, including separation anxiety, stranger danger, and cat chasing.
